Ultraformer III is a non-invasive advanced high-intensity focused ultrasound device for non-surgical tightening and lifting. The outcome will be a tighter skin that is lifted with enhanced definitions.

Ultrasound technology relies on sound waves which when focused can create energy spots in the focused points (hence the term focused ultrasound). These focal points will get temperatures reaching between 65 to 70⁰ Celsius in the targeted focal zones. This temperature range is sufficient to induce the production of new collagen and cause tightening of the collagen fibres which gives rise to the tightening and lifting effects observed after the treatment.

The Ultraformer III has both face and body applicators. The face applicators come with highly focused transducers reaching 1.5, 3, and 4.5 mm deep. The different depths relate to the different anatomic structures in the layers of the skin that are important in giving a fresh and tight appearance. Depending on the anatomic area treated, the first pass is usually done with the 4.5 mm transducer which reaches an important deep structure called the superficial musculoaponeuritic system (also known as SMAS).

The SMAS is an important structure in the face as it has many ligaments attached to it and by tightening the SMAS there is a pulling or lifting effect which is also partly due to the lifting effect of the loosened ligaments. The SMAS itself weakness in certain areas which gives rise to a saggy appearance and therefore tightening of the SMAS and ligaments helps give a tighter appearance to the skin. The 3 mm deep transducer reaches the lower part of the dermis which is important in tightening the collagen and strengthening the ligaments. The 1.5 mm deep transducer is used for the superficial part of the dermis and is mainly aimed at giving a healthier and tighter look of the surface of the skin. In practice often 2 or more of these transducers are used in the same treatment depending on the anatomic area.

The treatment is quick and safe and an ultrasound gliding gel is applied on the skin prior to the treatment. The recovery is quick with some mild residual redness and in some cases some mild pain and numbness which resolves quickly within few days.
