Skin Health 101

Looking after your skin is a lot easier said than done. There are a million and one things to consider, from your particular skin type to the products that you use, which is why it can be so difficult to put together a skincare routine that really works for you. It’s important to remember that it’s not just about how you outwardly care for your skin, but how your overall health has an impact from the inside out. To help you build the foundations to your skincare, we have put together the fundamental basics needed for every routine.

1.Wash your face

Washing your face when you first wake up and as the last thing you do before bed at night has a number of beauty benefits. When we cleanse our skin, we often miss fine traces of dirt, oil and make up, which is why it is important to follow your cleanser up with a simple toner. Finally, moisturising locks in hydration, but be sure to cater to your skin type.

2. Wear an SPF

Sun protection is vital! Long-term damage from harmful UV rays are a contributing cause of a number of skin concerns, including premature ageing, pigmentation concerns, and even skin cancer. When you have to spend a prolonged amount of time in the sunshine, be sure to protect your skin with what you wear, but most importantly with a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 or more.

3. Check your moles and freckles

As much as we try to protect our skin, it’s not unusual to see certain changes occur, but it’s important to stay on top of them and seek medical attention where appropriate. Be sure to regularly check your moles, freckles and other lesions as changes to aspects such as the size, shape and colour could indicate a more serious underlying health concern, such as skin cancer.

4. Seek medical advice where appropriate

If at any point you are particularly concerned about your skin health, don’t hesitate to seek the advice of a trained and experienced dermatologist, like Dr Firas.
