Why Do I Look Tired?

Are you tired of looking… tired? Regardless of how much sleep you get or how you feel, those unsightly dark circles beneath the eyes often refuse to disappear, leaving us looking a little worse for wear. This can have an impact on your confidence and overall mental wellbeing, which is why you’ll try anything to brighten up your complexion. With so many products on the market, it can be difficult to know where to turn and to find a solution that really works for you. The truth is, while dark circles can be influenced by a lack of sleep, this usually isn’t the cause and there are a number of factors that can contribute to their appearance.

Dark circles

The reason we get dark circles is because the periorbital skin is a mere 0.5mm thick as opposed to an average of 2mm thick elsewhere on the body, meaning that the blood vessels beneath are much more visible. Therefore, we tend to have a genetic disposition to periorbital dark circles that we just can’t avoid, but certain things can make them even worse. When the vessels are damaged, blood will leak and oxidise, causing even more prominent dark circles. Other contributing factors include certain medications, sleeping on your stomach, frequent rubbing, itching or scratching, and in rare cases your dark circles may be indicative of underlying liver concerns.

Tear trough fillers for hollow eyes

As we age, we lose elasticity and volume in our skin and as a result the skin beneath the eyes can become even thinner and our tear troughs can appear hollow-like. This exaggerates the appearance of dark circles as the vessels are even more visible at this point and the loss of volume can cause shadows to be cast beneath the eyes. In any case, dermal fillers are an ideal solution. They are a simple, non-surgical treatment that involves the injection of hyaluronic acid-based fillers beneath the eyes, offering a lifted, youthful look and boosting the natural production of collagen and elastin. These are the foundations to healthy skin and long-term rejuvenation.
